Saved Just Now

Now What?

If you truly just now accepted Jesus Christ as your savior and are relying on nothing but him to save you, CONGRATULATIONS! You just made the most important decision of your life! You have just made the biggest change in your life, too, because your life is not just here on earth but continues after you die or after you are raptured. But your journey has just begun and will last the rest of your life. You are just a baby Christian whether you are 9 or 90.

Assurance

Usually what happens sometime shortly after a person is saved is that Satan will bring doubts to your mind. He will bring all kinds of thoughts to your mind to make you doubt if you were really saved or even if God is real. He may say you didn't feel any different, how do you know you are saved, or you don't really understand what it means to be saved so you must not be or any number of different thoughts. He may even bring in people you know to ridicule you or make you question your salvation or try to convince you that you can lose your salvation (click here for why you can't lose your salvation once you are saved so you have to do something to keep it. Of course that is wrong. God wants you to be confident in your salvation and to know without any shred of doubt that you are saved and are now his child.

1Jn_5:13 I have written these things to you who believe on the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have everlasting life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God.

John wrote that he (under the direction of the Holy Spirit) wants you to know for sure that you have everlasting life and you only have that if you are saved. Notice also in that verse that it is circular. When you know that you have everlasting life, it reinforces your belief in Jesus as your savior which reinforces your assurance that you have eternal life, which reinforces your belief in Jesus and so on. Once you have accepted Jesus as your savior it is done.

Relationship with Jesus

You probably don't know much about the Bible or Jesus or anything spiritual at this point.  You will continue to learn the rest of your life but Jesus wants a relationship with you and that is the most important thing in your Christian life.

The best way to learn about Jesus initially is to read the book of "The Gospel of John" in the Bible. First look at the web page Which Bible. You don't even have to buy a Bible if you don't mind reading on the computer or your cell phone. Click here for John. Some people feel that there is something more special about God's printed word (a physical Bible with paper pages), though. Click here for where to find the Bible online or where to get a physical Bible.

Sin

You didn't have to repent of your sins to be saved, other than depending on something other than Jesus to get you to heaven,  but now it is time to make a change in your life with regard to sin. You will always be a sinner1 but you can move away from sin now. Jesus wants you to become more and more like him.2 Committing sins now causes the Holy Spirit to grieve3 for you and hinders your relationship with Jesus. Focus on the positive. Focus on heavenly things rather than things of the world.

Col 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

The more you focus on Jesus, the Bible, and things above, you will be amazed at how your life will move away from sin and become better.

Galatians 5:22-26 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.24And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

Church?

The question you most likely have right now is that now that I am saved what do I do now or what does God expect from me now.  If you were right here in my town, I would say start going to my church, get baptized and get in a new convert/discipleship class but since there are nearly 20,000 towns and cities in the USA and you might not even be in the USA, being near my town is extremely unlikely so I DO NOT suggest that.  There are so many churches and cults that teach wrong doctrine that until you learn enough to at least ask the right questions, you need to hold off. See the web page "Which Church."

What has changed?

You probably don't feel anything special, nothing different, although some claim to have felt like a burden was lifted from their shoulders. It doesn't matter if you "FEEL" something or not because it wasn't something physical that just happened.  It was totally spiritual.  So what is different now? Many things.

  1. Born Again
You have now been "Born Again." That is what the Bible says. When you were born, you were born with a physical body but a dead spirit. God told Adam that if he ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, he would die.  Eve was tricked by Satan and ate the forbidden fruit and then Adam ate it too. He didn't die physically so what did happen? His spirit died. Because of that first sin of Adam and Eve, no everyone born after that are also born with a dead Spirit. You have to have a living spirit for God's Spirit, the Holy Spirit, to communicate with you and work with you.  When you accepted Jesus as your savior, you were "born again." That is, your spirit was born again so that you now have a living spirit.

  2. You have a new eternal destination -- heaven.
Before you were saved, your destination was hell and that had nothing to do with you being good or not good. It was because you were (and are) a sinner and the punishment for being a sinner is eternity in hell when you die.  That is unless your sins have been taken care of and they now have.  Jesus died on the cross to save all who accept him from their sins.  He paid the penalty for your sins so you don't have to.  Now when you end your life here on earth, God will not see any of your sins, they have been covered by the blood of Jesus. God will only see the righteousness of Jesus when he looks at you.

  3. Your sins have all been forgiven.
All the sins you ever committed, all the sins you commit now, all the sins you commit in the future have been forgiven.  That doesn't mean you are free to do any sin you like.  When you leave this earth, you are clean but while you are here on this earth, there are consequences for sin.  Those consequences include what might happen to you during the committing of a sin such disobeying a speed limit law and getting in an accident, it could be you could get caught and suffer embarrassment or if breaking a law, legal consequences, or God could discipline you.

  4. Hebrews 12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
  5. You have a new Father in Heaven
Jesus loves you and your Father in Heaven loves you and you can go directly to the Father in prayer and make your requests or just talk to him anytime you want about anything you want and he will hear you.4

  6. You have a new inheritance
You have now been adopted into God's family and you will share an inheritance with Jesus.

1 Peter 1:4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.
  7. You will receive rewards in heaven
You will be rewarded for all that you do for Jesus when you get to heaven. You will not be judged for any of the sins in your life because they were all taken care of by Jesus dying on the cross for you. His blood cleansed all your sins and washed them away and all God will see at the judgment is the righteousness of Jesus. Those things that you did for yourself will be burned up and gone at the judgment but what you did for Jesus will be what remains that you will be rewarded for6.

  8. There are many other benefits you will learn as you continue to study

What has NOT changed?

  1. You are still a sinner by nature.
You still have your sin nature and will still be tempted to sin. Paul wrote all the books in the New Testament specifically for the church. He was the apostle to all people who were not Jews. He was frustrated and plagued by his sin nature the same as you and I are so don't be discouraged. Paul explains this in the whole chapter 7 of Romans but here is a key verse:

Romans 7:19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
  2. You are still in this world
You are still in this world and so are subject to the laws of the land and the laws of the universe. The Bible says to obey those that rule over you7. You still have to obey all the laws whether local, state, federal or otherwise or you will face the penalties. The laws of the universe are physical laws like gravity, the affects of heat and cold, and so on. You have no special abilities more than you had before so if you jump off a tall building, you will die, if you slam into rock wall with your car you will die, if you go out in freezing weather without proper clothing for an extended time you will freeze. If you handle a poisonous snake and get bit, you will be affected the same as anyone else, if you drink poison you will probably die. If you get a deadly disease, you will probably die.  This may all seem ridiculously obvious but there are religious cults that think they can drink poison or handle poisonous snakes and they will not be hurt by them. There are also those that refuse medical help depending on God to heal them and you can't depend on that either. God does heal miraculously sometimes but God is supreme and has his overall plan for the world and that may not include healing a specific person.

What should I do now?

What if the rapture has already happened and I just now got saved? Click here.

Start praying often. Ask God to help you to become a better Christian, help you to learn his Bible and whatever else is on your mind. God wants to be honored and praised so keep that in mind in your prayers.

I already mentioned that you should start reading your Bible and the good place to start is the book of John. You should continue reading your Bible from now on and you could next read Genesis to learn how God created everything and what happened in the beginning on the earth, and then I would go through the whole New Testament. Romans especially talks about salvation. But after reading John, I would suggest you learn what you need to know to find a church to attend. Here is a suggestion for a list of first things to do:

Acknowledge your salvation to others

The Bible says in many places to not be ashamed of Jesus, of the gospel, and of being a Christian8. An example is the story of the woman at the well9. As soon as she accepted Jesus as the Messiah, she ran to tell everyone she knew. You can start just by telling your friends and relatives. Sometimes those you tell will be intimidated or offended and may not want to have anything to do with you after that but that is okay. They may not be people you want to associate with any more anyway. Just pray that they will get saved, too. Old unsaved friends can sometimes be a hindrance to new Christians by leading them back into a life of sin or preventing them from moving toward the life Christ wants for them.  You may also, just by your life, influence those to ask questions and to eventually be saved, too. If they are already Christians, they will be delighted to know that you have now been saved, too, guaranteed!

Another way you can do this is to list your name on our professions page. You can use the contact form to do that. You will list just your first name, city and state. It doesn't matter if anyone sees it or not or knows who you are or not, you have acknowledged your salvation. It doesn't gain you anything by doing that and doesn't deprive you of anything if you don't. It is just another way to be obedient to Christ by acknowledging that you have accepted him as your savior, and it might be the easiest way for you if you are a little shy. You still want to work at becoming more bold about letting people know your are saved when the opportunity arises.

You will also likely do this once you join a church and ask to be baptized.

Tell others how to be saved

You don't have to know anything besides how you got saved to start with.  Not everyone is able to be a consistent soul winner telling people how to be saved but you can tell people how you got saved.  If you understand what you did from the Ultimate Truth web page, then you can learn that well enough to tell others the same thing and lead them to Christ.

Another simple way is to just give other people the link to this website since that is the exact purpose of this website anyway.  You can send them a link in an email and just say, "hey, take a look at this."  Another excellent way to extend this beyond people you know with email addresses and even less personal if you are hesitant to send it to people you know is to have a bunch of cheap business cards made up with just this web address and hand them to strangers, checkers at stores, waiters and waitresses, airline attendants, leave them in restrooms or anywhere else you can think of where people might find them.  Some people even slip them in purses on display at stores. I was able to find 500 including shipping for $15.45 and 1000 for $22.91 at the time of this release, October, 2020. All you need on the card is TRUTHQUEST.COM.

You can also request a code number that you can add to the lower right corner so when others get saved and add their name to the Professions page, that number will be added. That way you can get an idea of how your efforts are paying off and can praise the Lord for each person you were responsible for leading to salvation. You can request a number on the contact page.

Click here for an example (my card).

Questions

This website, just like your new life-long journey as a Christian, is a continuing process. If you arrive here soon after this is published, you may not find what you want to know. It is being published early to at least get the salvation message out as quickly as possible.  I encourage you to come back often to see what is new but you can also contact me if you have any questions.
